The Calgary Flames are a professional ice hockey team based in Calgary. The Flames compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as part of the Pacific Division in the Western Conference. Established in 1972 in Atlanta as the Atlanta Flames, the team moved to Calgary in 1980. The Flames secured their first and only championship in 1988–89. The team's surprising journey to the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals gave rise to the Red Mile, and in 2011, they hosted and won the second Heritage Classic outdoor game. The Flames have earned two Presidents' Trophies as the NHL's top regular-season team and have clinched seven division championships. Since arriving in southern Alberta, through the Flames Foundation, the team has contributed more than CA$32 million to charity.
